80 boxes were assembled!
A sweet young girl named Wynona and her girl scout troop collected 80 Welcome Boxes for children in foster care.
Welcome boxes provide a box of age-appropriate items to occupy a child’s time while in the DSHS child welfare office. The child then takes the box with them to their new foster home. In an unfamiliar living environment, owning nice possessions is of intense psychological importance.
Embrace Washington now provides Welcome Boxes to 8 surrounding counties in our area.
How were donations collected?
Wynona, her family and her Girl Scout Troop #2363 spent the month of May contacting local and out of state businesses for donations to put in the Welcome boxes.
Sherdae, Wynona’s mom wrote a letter asking for donations of toothbrushes, socks, underwear, stickers, toothpaste, coloring books, flashlights, books, hairbrushes, crayons, toys, stuffed animals and many more items that would fit in to a Welcome Box.
We are grateful for the thoughtfulness of Shopko, DaBell Orthodontics, Spokane Elite Dance Studio, Avista, Modern Electric, State Farm (Patrick Foster) and the families at Seth Woodard Elementary School for their generous donations to help fill the boxes.
Because of generous community members foster children feel loved and supported.
